Ph.D. in Economics from Osaka University. Specializes in international trade, foreign direct investment, and development economics, with a focus on firm-level empirical analysis of the Japanese, Chinese, and Southeast Asian economies. Author of numerous articles in international journals including The World Economy and the Journal of Asian Economics.
